Parvovirus Outbreak

Are you aware of the parvovirus outbreak in our area?

Dog owners in the Lowell area especially need to be pro-active for their dogs as there has been an outbreak of the parvovirus that has taken the lives of several dogs.

If caught in time the dog can recover, but prevention is always best.  It is a viral disease with symptoms including: vomiting, lethargic behavior, diarrhea, loss of appetite.  This disease is highly contagious and can be transmitted by any person or animal that has come in contact with the feces of an infected animal.  It also affects the white blood cells, can damage the heart and the pet may suffer live long consequences.

Be sure your pets are up to date with all their vaccinations and have their routine check ups.

Note:  As we live in an area that is close to Lowell/Lawrence and its summer, consider that families include their pets when visiting other areas.
